Education background of indian cricketers

They are stylish, they are dashing, they are hardworking- They are the cricketers! They know the game pretty well to earn everyone’s appreciation, they know the numbers of runs they scored or the balls they bowled but were they as good in studies? Here is a list of Indian cricketers and their educational qualification:

SOURAV GANGULY: The Dada of Indian cricket completed his graduation in commerce from the prestigious St. Xavier’s College. He was later awarded the honorary Ph.D.


SACHIN TENDULKAR: As he focused on cricket from a very early age, the master blaster could only complete his education up to the 12th standards from Shardashram Vidyamandir before getting into professional life.

VIRENDER SEHWAG: The powerful opener joined Jamia Milia Islamia University and completed his graduation before stepping into cricket.

VVS LAXMAN: One of the most highly educated cricketers, Laxman had to terminate his MBBS studies to pursue  his career as a cricketer.

RAHUL DRAVID: Dravid did his schooling at St. Joseph’s High School, Bangalore and earned a degree in commerce from St. Joseph’s college of commerce. Jammy was studying MBA in St. Joseph’s college of Business Administration while he got a call from Indian National Cricket team and had to leave that midway.

YUVRAJ SINGH: Yuvraj, the champion skater during his schooldays studied in DAV Public School completing up to 12th after which his father got into cricket.

AJIT AGARKAR: Agarkar, before being successful with the balls, completed his schooling from Shardashram Vidyamandir and attended Ruparel College in Matunga for graduation.

ANIL KUMBLE: Jumbo gained his primary education from Holy Saint English School and he later attended National High School. Next, he attended National College, Basuvanagadi and holds a BE degree from  Rashtreeya Vidyalaya College of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering.

JAVAGAL SRINATH: Just like Kumble, Srinath is also an engineer. He got his degree in Instrumentation Engineering from Jayachamarajendra College of Engineer, Mysuru.

ZAHEER KHAN: After completing his high schools in Srirampur, Zaheer moved on to join engineering. He was a bright student but had to give it up in order to play cricket.

MS DHONI: The current ODI skipper couldn’t do much more than the 10th standards before joining cricket but with his interest in education, he completed 12th and also enrolled himself in St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai for B.Com degree.

GAUTAM GAMBHIR: Gambhir completed his schooling in Modern School, Delhi and got his graduation degree from Hindu College, Delhi University.

VIRAT KOHLI: The now test skipper started his schooling at Vishal Bharti Public School and, in ninth grade, shifted to Savier Convent in Paschim Vihar to help his cricket practice. He studied there up to class 12th and was a very promising student.

RAVICHANDRAN ASHWIN: Ashwin started his schooling at Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan and shifted to St. Bede’s. He got his B.Tech from SSN College of engineering in IT.

SURESH RAINA: Suresh Raina successfully completed his high school studies before joining the national side.

ROHIT SHARMA: Rohit Hitman Sharma completed his primary education at Our Lady of Velankani then enrolled in the Swami Vivekananda on a scholarship earned by playing good cricket.

AJINKYA RAHANE: Rahane got his Secondary School Certificate from SV Joshi High School, Dombivli. 

SHIKHAR DHAWAN: Dhawan is said to have got his high school studies successfully completed before joining the national team.

UMESH YADAV: Umesh Yadav completed his schooling in Shankar Rao Chouhan Vidyalaya, Khaperkheda.

STUART BINNY: Binny attended middle school in The Frank Anthony Public School and then joined St. Josephs Indian High School for high school studies where his father Roger Binny was the sports, coach.

Though we have made this list of their educational qualification, we believe they make the nation proud with the unusual talent they hold in the game of cricket.
